Day Nine

Good Morning!
Tim's between Shageluk and Anvik with 12 dogs. When I talked to him during his 24 hour rest he said he might drop More Spots due to a possible shoulder issue, but he always thinks the dogs have shoulder issues and then the next day they're on the uneven parallel bars. Notice I said shoulder issue, not injury. It's far, far better to drop a dog with an issue before it escalates into an injury, rendering the dog susceptible to chronic problems thereafter. Of course there's injuries that occur due to unpredictable accidents, but if Tim sees something brewing, game over.

Tim and team have been on the trail for over a week now and possibly another week yet to go with no underwear, no internet, and one hell of a daily commute, so I'd like to give a great big thanks to all the folks who've sent encouraging messages, thoughts and comments; I pass them along as I'm able and I know Tim appreciates the support and interest that began months ago in this odysee.

PS - I'll be enjoying a delicious lunch of crow today, as I really can see Sarah Palin's house from here...

  3. Hi Mary,
    Thanks for your thoughtful insight.
I love your perspective. You are the best and Tim is the second best.
Tell Tim his ex-elf is pullin for him.

  4. Hi Mary!
Tim and the team are in our prayers, as are you my friend. We are so proud of all of you. Rest assured that someone really does know what YOU are going through right now. Know that we are here watching, cheering, crying, and as someone did for my mushers a while back, I even put on clean, dry, warm underwear in Tim's honor!! Take care, all of you! Paula

  6. Wish we were there!! Aren't the "grocery" stores awesome?? The selection of "healthy foods," bulk-buying, and ethnic goodies is to die for! And the in-store deli/eating...wow. I really miss those features here in Michigan...By the way, while you're in Wasilla, stop in at Three Rivers Fly and Tackle (corner of Knik and Parks, across from railroad depot) and ask for Steve. He's Kim's brother. If anyone wants to go fishing, he's the one to take you. (Yes, there is ice fishing in Alaska!)

  7. Hey that's an awesome picture of Tim with Egil and George! George is such a living legend up here; my hubbie got to build a dog box for his truck one time and then we met up with him at a local restaurant and he thanked Mike for his great work! On a sadder note, we just read that Dr. Lou Packer lost 2 dogs right out of Iditarod, and had to be airlifted out with the rest of his team. He, Alan Peck, and Dr. Tim were keeping company most of the race so far...our thoughts and prayers are with him and the rest of the rookie pack as they fight to finish this incredible yet fearsome race.

  9. Hi Mary. Tell Tim he's got a follower from Orlando where it just missed the 80-degree mark! Pass on some of that virtual heat wave to Tim as he continues an awe inspiring journey.
